Physiotherapy Services in Knaresborough
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Knaresborough premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Knaresborough, in North Yorkshire, perches on the side of a dramatic gorge cut by the River Nidd, with a stone railway viaduct striding across the river below the castle ruins. Mother Shipton’s Cave, with its petrifying well, claims to be England’s oldest visitor attraction, and the town is known for its annual bed race.
The Market Place sits at the top of the gorge, and steep lanes, steps and paths drop down to the riverside, which makes the town beautiful but challenging after surgery. Homes range from old stone cottages in the centre to post-war estates and new housing in Scriven and Hay-a-Park.
Knaresborough station, beside the viaduct, has trains to Harrogate, Leeds and York. The riverside walk is level and popular, while the climb up to the castle grounds and Market Place is a good test of strength. Buses run frequently to Harrogate.
Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS services, with Harrogate District Hospital providing most acute care. Our private home physiotherapy continues recovery after discharge.
The many stepped alleys, such as those dropping from the castle to Waterside, give a ready-made ladder of challenges, from a short flight of steps to the full climb from the river.
A statue of Blind Jack Metcalf, the eighteenth-century road builder who lost his sight to smallpox as a child, sits on a bench in the Market Place. Below the castle, the tiny Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag is carved into the cliff face, and rowing boats can be hired at Waterside in summer for a gentle trip under the viaduct.
