Physiotherapy Services in Leicester
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Leicester. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist visiting you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands by population, with around 370,000 people inside its council boundary and many more in suburbs just outside it. Oadby and Wigston form their own borough to the south-east, while Glenfield and Braunstone Town are in Blaby district and Birstall is in Charnwood. Inside the city are areas such as Belgrave and Rushey Mead in the north, Highfields, Evington and Stoneygate to the east, Clarendon Park and Knighton to the south, and Aylestone, Braunstone, Westcotes and Beaumont Leys to the west and north-west. These names describe Leicester; they are not a list of places we promise to reach, so please check your own postcode below.
Leicester is one of the most diverse cities in Britain, and the 2021 census found that no single ethnic group made up a majority of its population. Many households use a language other than English day to day, with Gujarati especially common. If it would help to have a relative or friend with you to explain exercises or ask questions, they are very welcome to join the visit, and we will take the time to make sure everyone understands the plan.
The city's three main hospitals are run by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The Leicester Royal Infirmary in the centre has the emergency department, Glenfield Hospital on the north-west edge of the city specialises in heart and lung care, and Leicester General Hospital is in Evington to the east. We are independent of the trust and do not receive your records automatically, so please share your discharge summary and any precautions, particularly after heart or lung treatment, when your team may have set specific limits.
Leicester's housing tells the story of its growth. Dense Victorian terraces fill Highfields, Westcotes and Clarendon Park, often with narrow stairs and a rear yard. Braunstone and the Saffron Lane estate were built as council estates between the wars, with wider plots and semi-detached houses, and Beaumont Leys grew from the 1970s with newer homes and cul-de-sacs. Stoneygate and Knighton have larger Victorian and Edwardian houses with high ceilings and long staircases. Each brings different challenges for stairs, bathing and getting outside, and we plan around the home you actually live in.
Much of Leicester is fairly level, and many people walk to local shops on Belgrave Road, Narborough Road or Queens Road. The outer ring road and the busy routes into the centre can make crossings hard after a fall or an operation, and practising those crossings safely is often part of the plan. Nottingham lies about twenty-five miles to the north and Derby about thirty miles to the north-west, each with its own page.
