Physiotherapy Services in Nottingham
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Nottingham. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist visiting you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Nottingham's council boundary is drawn tightly around the older city, so only around 320,000 people live inside it, while many more have a Nottingham address. West Bridgford sits across the Trent in Rushcliffe, Beeston and Stapleford are in Broxtowe, and Arnold and Carlton fall within Gedling. Inside the city are districts such as Bulwell and Basford in the north, Sherwood and Carrington on the hills, Sneinton, St Ann's and The Meadows close to the centre, and Lenton, Radford, Wollaton and Clifton to the west and south. These names describe the area; they are not a list of places we promise to reach, so please check your own postcode below.
Nottingham is hillier than many visitors expect. Streets climb steeply from the Lace Market and the Trent valley up towards Mapperley, Sherwood and Carrington, and a short walk to the bus stop can include a real gradient. When we plan practice walks, we use the slopes, kerbs and steps you actually face rather than a flat corridor.
Many Nottingham patients come home from one of the two main sites of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust: the Queen's Medical Centre beside the University of Nottingham, which is the major trauma centre for the East Midlands, or Nottingham City Hospital off Hucknall Road. We are independent of these hospitals and do not receive your records automatically, so please keep your discharge letter, exercise sheet and any precautions from your surgical or stroke team to hand.
Housing varies a lot across the city. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Forest Fields, Hyson Green, Sneinton and Carrington often have steep, narrow stairs and a back yard reached by a step. Large council estates built from the 1920s onward, such as Bestwood, Aspley and Clifton, are mostly semi-detached and terraced houses with a straight flight of stairs, and there are flats and maisonettes around the centre and in St Ann's. Many terraces near the two universities are shared student houses, but plenty of long-standing residents live on the same streets. Your physiotherapist will look at your own stairs, bathroom and front step, and suggest equipment only where it would genuinely help.
The Nottingham Express Transit tram runs from the city centre north to Hucknall and Phoenix Park, south to Clifton, and west through Beeston to Toton Lane. Getting on and off a tram or bus with confidence, and managing the walk to the stop, is a common goal, and we can build sessions around the route you really use. Derby is about fifteen miles west along the A52 and Leicester lies to the south; both have their own pages.
