Physiotherapy Services in Newham
Newham is an east London borough bounded by the River Lea to the west and the Thames to the south. It includes Stratford and much of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Forest Gate, Manor Park, East Ham, West Ham, Plaistow, Canning Town, Custom House, Beckton, North Woolwich and the Royal Docks. This page covers the borough as a whole. The Olympic Park area is shared with Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest, and homes near Leyton or Bow may be in another borough, so the postcode checker is the safest guide.
We do not operate a clinic in Newham; our physiotherapy appointments are provided in patients' homes. The physiotherapist who visits may live some distance away and travel to you. Whether a visit is possible depends on your exact postcode and on who is available at the time, so please use the postcode checker on this page rather than relying on the name of your street or neighbourhood.
Newham University Hospital in Plaistow is the main NHS hospital in the borough. It is run by Barts Health NHS Trust, which also runs the Royal London Hospital in nearby Whitechapel, so many Newham residents are discharged from one of the two. Home Physio And Rehab is independent and is not part of Barts Health or of the NHS. If the ward gave you a discharge letter or an exercise sheet, keep it out for the first visit so nothing the hospital team advised is lost.
Newham's housing varies a great deal. Victorian terraces fill the streets of Forest Gate, Manor Park and East Ham, often with a bay-fronted ground floor and a steep staircase to the bedrooms. Around Stratford, Canning Town and the Royal Docks many people live in new high-rise flats, where getting home depends on lifts, fobbed doors and long corridors, while Plaistow and Beckton mix low-rise blocks and maisonettes. The route from the street to your own front door is assessed as part of the plan rather than left as an afterthought.
Goals are often about getting out locally again: Green Street or East Ham High Street for shopping, the walk to a DLR or Elizabeth line station, a loop of West Ham Park or Central Park in East Ham, or a level stroll beside the water at Royal Victoria Dock. Your physiotherapist will agree the goals with you and work up to them in steps you can manage.
