Physiotherapy Services in Tower Hamlets
Tower Hamlets is an inner east London borough on the north bank of the Thames. It runs from the Tower of London, St Katharine Docks and Wapping, through Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Shadwell, Stepney and Limehouse, to Bethnal Green, Bow, Poplar and the Isle of Dogs with Canary Wharf. This page is written for the borough as a whole. Shoreditch is mostly in Hackney and Stratford is in Newham, so if you live near either edge please rely on the postcode checker rather than the name of the nearest station.
We do not operate a clinic in Tower Hamlets; our physiotherapy appointments are provided in patients' homes. The physiotherapist who visits may live some distance away and travel to you. Whether a visit is possible depends on your exact postcode and on who is available at the time, so please use the postcode checker on this page rather than relying on the name of your street or neighbourhood.
The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, run by Barts Health NHS Trust, is the borough's main hospital and one of London's major trauma centres, so many residents are discharged from there after an injury, an operation or a stroke. Home Physio And Rehab is an independent provider and is not connected to Barts Health or to the NHS. Bring out any discharge paperwork or exercise sheets before the first visit, so your physiotherapist can see exactly what the hospital team recommended.
Most people in Tower Hamlets live in flats. There are large council and housing association estates in Poplar, Stepney and Bethnal Green, converted warehouses along the river at Wapping and Limehouse, tall new towers on the Isle of Dogs, and Georgian and Victorian terraces around Spitalfields and Bow. Lifts, heavy communal doors and long open walkways can matter as much as the stairs, so these are looked at early, together with getting in and out of a small bathroom safely.
Getting out locally is usually the aim: Whitechapel Market or Roman Road Market, the walk to a DLR, Overground or Underground station, a circuit of Victoria Park or Mile End Park, or the towpath along Regent's Canal or the Limehouse Cut. Goals are agreed with you and, where it is safe, rehearsed on the actual route you want to manage.
