Oswaldtwistle is a town in the borough of Hyndburn in Lancashire, between Accrington and Blackburn. It grew as a cotton town, and rows of stone terraces still climb the slopes towards the moors above.
James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny, lived and worked at Stanhill on the edge of the town in the 1760s. Oswaldtwistle Mills, a former working mill, is now a large shopping village and visitor attraction.
Rhyddings Park, with its bowling greens and tree-lined paths, is the main green space, and Union Road holds the everyday shops. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through neighbouring Church, offering flat walking beside the water.
Housing is largely Victorian terraces, with inter-war semis, post-war estates and newer homes towards Knuzden and Belthorn. Older two-up two-down houses often come with a steep central staircase and a stepped back yard.
NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board commissions care. Oswaldtwistle patients are usually treated at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, and we provide private physiotherapy at home once someone is discharged.
Buses link the town with Accrington and Blackburn, and Church and Oswaldtwistle station is on the East Lancashire line. Typical goals include walking along Union Road, round Rhyddings Park or along the towpath at Church.
The canal towpath at Church is level and quiet, so it lets people build stamina without the hills found in much of the town.
Oswaldtwistle Mills has long indoor walkways with places to sit, which makes it a useful wet-weather target during recovery.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.
