Physiotherapy Services in Porthmadog
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Porthmadog premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Porthmadog is a harbour town in Gwynedd, built in the early nineteenth century when William Madocks reclaimed land from the Glaslyn estuary. Slate from Blaenau Ffestiniog was shipped around the world from its quays.
The Cob, the great embankment that made the town possible, carries the road and the Ffestiniog Railway across the estuary. Its footpath offers a long, flat walk with mountain views on every side.
Two heritage railways start here, the Ffestiniog and the Welsh Highland. Climbing into the small carriages needs good balance and leg strength, which we can practise before a trip.
High Street is long and level, running from the harbour to the station. Its wide pavements and frequent benches make it a good route for increasing walking time week by week.
Surgery for this part of Gwynedd usually takes place at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. Ysbyty Alltwen near Tremadog supports local recovery, and we also treat clients in their own homes.
Borth-y-Gest, just south, is a pretty horseshoe of painted houses around a sandy bay. Its seafront path is short and flat, though the coves beyond involve rocky steps.
Tremadog, the planned town Madocks built first, has a square of Georgian buildings beneath a cliff. It was the birthplace of T. E. Lawrence, and its streets are compact and level.
Morfa Bychan and Black Rock Sands lie to the west, where cars can drive onto the beach. Walking on firm wet sand is a useful balance exercise once you are steady.
Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth sit across the Cob to the east, near Portmeirion. Many homes there are on slopes, so step and hill practice is part of rehabilitation.
Prenteg is a small hamlet north of Tremadog at the foot of the hills. Narrow roads without footways mean we plan safe outdoor walking with you.
