We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Prudhoe premises to walk into. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Prudhoe is a town in the Tyne Valley in Northumberland, set on a steep south-facing slope above the River Tyne. Its medieval stronghold, now in the care of English Heritage, has watched over the river crossing for over 900 years.
The town grew with coal mining and later industry, and Front Street remains the main shopping area. Prudhoe sits high above the valley floor, so many routes between home, the shops and the riverside involve long hills.
Tyne Riverside Country Park, down by the river, has level paths, open grassland and woodland. Across the Tyne, Ovingham is the burial place of the engraver Thomas Bewick, and the riverside walk towards Wylam passes George Stephenson's birthplace cottage.
Homes include stone terraces close to Front Street, post-war estates, bungalows and newer homes on the outskirts towards Mickley. Hilly gardens and driveways are common, which we include in practice.
Prudhoe falls under NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. People are usually treated at Hexham General Hospital or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, and we continue their rehabilitation privately at home.
Prudhoe station, down by the river, is on the Tyne Valley line between Newcastle and Carlisle, and buses run to Hexham and Newcastle. Common goals include getting to Front Street, taking a train or a stroll along the Tyne.
The hill between the station and Front Street is a tough climb, so we practise it in short stages with rests as strength and confidence build.
The flat riverside paths in the country park are a good place for longer walks once the hill is manageable.
