Ross-on-Wye is a market town in south Herefordshire, set on a sandstone cliff above a great horseshoe bend of the River Wye. It is often called the birthplace of British tourism because of the Wye Tour boat trips that began here in the eighteenth century.
The red sandstone Market House, built in the seventeenth century, stands at the top of the town, and the spire of St Mary's Church rises above the Prospect, a public garden with sweeping views over the river. Both are linked to John Kyrle, the local benefactor remembered as the Man of Ross.
Below the town, the riverside meadows and Wilton Bridge give level walking beside the Wye. Goodrich Castle and Symonds Yat are within a short drive and are favourite outings for many families.
Housing ranges from historic town-centre houses and cottages on steep lanes to post-war estates and newer homes on the eastern side. The town's hills and steps are a real factor in planning safe walking routes.
NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care Board commissions care. Ross patients are usually treated at Hereford County Hospital, with some community services at Ross Community Hospital, and we provide private physiotherapy at home afterwards.
Buses run to Hereford, Gloucester and Monmouth, and the M50 links the town with the Midlands. Common goals include walking to the Market House, up to the Prospect or along the riverside path.
Climbing from the riverside up to the Market House involves steep streets and steps, so we often rehearse slopes and kerbs at home before trying the full route.
The riverside walk from the rowing club towards Wilton Bridge is flat and has benches, which makes it a dependable early outdoor target.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.

Expert assessment and treatment of muscle, joint, bone and soft tissue (MSK) conditions at home.
