We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Stromness is the second town of Orkney, built along the shore of a sheltered bay on the West Mainland. Its old Norse name, Hamnavoe, means haven bay, and ships have sheltered here for centuries.
The single main street winds for a long way along the waterfront, paved with flagstones and only wide enough for one car. Its gentle line makes it a lovely route for steady walking.
Private piers and stone houses stand with their gable ends to the water. Narrow closes climb from the street to the hillside, some with steep steps.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Hudson's Bay Company ships called here to recruit Orkneymen and take on water. Stromness Museum tells this story and much more.
The Balfour hospital in Kirkwall provides most care for Orkney, with some specialist treatment in Aberdeen. Home physiotherapy lets you carry on recovering in Stromness.
The Pier Arts Centre, on the waterfront, holds a fine collection of modern art. Its level galleries are a calm indoor place to walk on a windy day.
Brinkie's Brae, the hill behind the town, gives wide views over Hoy and Scapa Flow. Its steep paths are a goal for the later stages of recovery.
Outertown and Warbeth lie on the western edge, with a beach and a golf course. The level shore road towards Warbeth is a good walk.
Stenness and Sandwick lie inland and to the north, home to the Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae. Homes there are often scattered farmhouses.
Orphir and Houton lie to the east along Scapa Flow. Strong winds are common, so indoor exercises are an important part of every programme.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
