Physiotherapy Services in Birmingham
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Birmingham. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist visiting you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Birmingham is a very large city. Its council serves more than a million people, and the city stretches from Sutton Coldfield in the north, which became part of Birmingham in 1974, down through Erdington, Aston and the city centre to Selly Oak, Northfield and Longbridge in the south-west, and out to Hall Green, Acocks Green and Yardley in the south and east. Edgbaston, Harborne, Moseley and Kings Heath sit close to the centre but feel quite different from one another. These names describe the city; they are not a list of places we promise to reach. Coverage varies by postcode and therapist availability, so please check your own postcode below.
Many Birmingham patients come home from a hospital run by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, such as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston, Heartlands Hospital in Bordesley Green or Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield. Planned hip and knee surgery often takes place at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Northfield, which has its own NHS foundation trust. We are independent of these hospitals and do not receive your records automatically, so please keep your discharge letter, exercise sheet and any precautions from your surgical team to hand.
Housing changes a great deal from one district to the next. Older inner-city areas such as Small Heath, Sparkbrook and Handsworth have long rows of Victorian terraces with steep, narrow stairs and a step down to the back. The suburbs built between the wars, in places like Kingstanding, Hall Green and Quinton, are full of semi-detached houses with a bay window and a single straight flight of stairs. There are also many tower blocks and newer city-centre flats, where a lift being out of action can matter as much as the stairs inside. These are examples only. Your physiotherapist looks at the stairs, bathroom, doorways and chairs in your own home and builds the plan around them.
Because the city is so big, the sensible next step after a first visit can differ for a patient in Sutton Coldfield and one in Selly Oak, even after the same operation. Some people want to get back to walking the canal towpaths or around Cannon Hill Park; others simply want to reach the corner shop or the bus stop on their road again. We set goals with you rather than from a standard sheet, and review them as you progress. If you are close to Solihull or Wolverhampton, those places have their own pages.
