Physiotherapy Services in Ely
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Ely premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Ely is a small cathedral city in East Cambridgeshire, built on a low hill that once stood as an island in the Fens. The cathedral, known as the Ship of the Fens, can be seen for miles across the flat landscape. Oliver Cromwell lived here for several years, and his house near the cathedral is now a museum.
The city centre sits on the hill, and Fore Hill and Back Hill drop down to the River Great Ouse and the waterside, so a walk from the riverside back to the market place includes a real climb. The riverside paths themselves are flat and pleasant, with cafés and moorings, and they make a natural place to build stamina. Jubilee Gardens, near the river, has level paths and benches.
Housing ranges from historic cottages and terraces in the centre to large modern estates on the edge of the city, with plenty of bungalows in the surrounding villages such as Littleport, Witchford and Little Downham. Ely station is a busy junction with trains to Cambridge, King's Lynn, Norwich and Peterborough, and many people want to manage a train journey again after recovering.
The Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely provides outpatient and community services, while most surgery and emergency care is at Addenbrooke's in Cambridge or the Hinchingbrooke and Peterborough City hospitals. NHS services are planned by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board. Our home visits are independent, so we work alongside any community physiotherapy and follow your consultant's advice.
