We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Liversedge premises to walk into. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Liversedge is a town in the Spen Valley, in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire. It played a dramatic part in the Luddite rebellion: in 1812 a band of croppers attacked Rawfolds Mill, an event Charlotte Brontë later used in her novel Shirley. The Brontës' father, Patrick, served as a curate at Hartshead nearby, and the Shears Inn at Hightown was a Luddite meeting place.
Liversedge has no single centre; its shops and services are spread along the A62 at Millbridge, Hightown and Littletown. The Spen Valley Greenway, a former railway line between Dewsbury and Bradford, is now a flat, surfaced path with sculptures, and it runs right through the town. That makes it one of the best routes in the area for rehabilitation walks.
Housing includes stone terraces built for textile and card-making workers, inter-war semis and newer estates at Roberttown and Norristhorpe. The valley sides are steep, and many homes sit on slopes that make getting to the bus stop tiring after illness.
West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Liversedge patients are usually treated at Dewsbury and District Hospital, Pinderfields in Wakefield or Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery.
Liversedge has no railway station, so buses to Dewsbury, Bradford and Huddersfield matter. Patients often want to walk the Greenway, get to the shops at Millbridge or catch the bus.
Liversedge lies in the Spen Valley between Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike, and in 1812 Luddite croppers attacked Rawfolds Mill here, an episode Charlotte Brontë drew on in Shirley. Patrick Brontë served as curate at nearby Hartshead. Today the Spen Valley Greenway follows the old railway line with a smooth surface and decorative sculptures, giving an excellent flat route. Millbridge, Roberttown and Norristhorpe each have their own character, with steep lanes rising from the valley floor.
